Today (Day 4) was a REALLY great one! I decided to start with another omelet for breakfast, but added some spinach in it, which I don't regret! I also grabbed a thing of peanut butter and a plastic spoon (because the kids are always eating peanut butter spoons at home so I thought they'd like that I was having a snack like them).
We started our day at FBI HQ. This was one that Stace wasn't super interested in doing at first, but the lady who set it up for us said it was a good one to do so she started to look forward to it after that. I knew I wanted to do it because the idea of the experience sounded cool. The building is so boring that I actually missed that we've actually passed by it several times on this trip, kind of funny. The workers there are also pretty funny. They made me semi panic when the turn style beeped and the guy stopped me and made me think I had done something bad, but after I started to look worried he laughed and said "that gets them every time!" haha. There was another guy who was asking us how older we are and didn't believe we are almost 40. There was another guy that I asked him if he watches shows with FBI people and thinks "that's not real. That's not what we do" and he said yeah, they talk way too much about their personal lives and real agents don't do that at all. And then, towards the end of the tour, we talked to a guy who does counter intelligence. He said he does the tour when he needs a break to escape the crazy of the world, haha (noted why I could never do that job, not that I ever thought I could). We talked to him the most and it was really cool learning more about their jobs. I'm so glad we got to do this tour, they had a few interactive things to do, which was cool
After that, we headed over to the Spy Museum, which was very interactive, but kind of fun. That one, we realized, is more a place to take kids to. After the first room, where they talked about disguises, I was kind of over it. I only stayed for the interactive stuff really.
Once we finished with that, we did a quick visit to the archives to see the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights. I watched National Treasure before we left for the trip so this was kind of a cool stop. We also saw the deed to the Statue of Liberty, which I didn't realize would be here. The Declaration is SUPER faded, which is kind of sad, but luckily they have copies of it next to it so you can still see the words. I was just really surprised they were able to write so straight on unlined paper, I definitely can't do that!
Once we were done with that, we went over to Fords Theater. They had a museum to walk through and it was half cool, it had a little more than it really needed. But I did find the posters about John Wilkes Booth and his accomplices very interesting to read about, I didn't realize he had ANY much less THAT many. The theater was really cool, much smaller than I realized. I didn't realize it still did shows, I wish we had been able to watch one (even though Stace doesn't care for plays). We then went across the street to The House Where Lincoln Died, which had a very long line to get into. Also, there was this hallway (I believe it was in the theater), that showed the timeline of Lincoln on one side and Booth on the other for the whole day leading up to the shooting and afterwards and I found that to be very interesting (there were a few people who rushed past us in that part and I was kind of dumbfounded why you wouldn't want to read that). I didn't realize that Lincoln didn't die for hours and that Booth was on the run for days. Overall, it was so fascinating and I learned a lot!
Once we got through all that, I really wanted to go to the Air and Space Museum (mostly because I saw online they had a stuffed Hello Kitty Astronaut toy that I knew Cara would go crazy for), but by the time we got there, the passes had all been sold out for the day and they wouldn't let us into the gift shop without a pass (which makes sense, but was worth asking). So we headed back to the Lincoln Memorial so I could really walk around it and soak it all in. I just really wanted to take that one in, it was my big must do for this trip. Unfortunately, it was under some construction (they are adding a basement to it to make into a museum and gift shop...or so it looked) so you couldn't walk around it, just go up to the front, but it was fine. I was still able to just enjoy it and remember more about it for a bit.
We then wanted to go to this gift shop that was nearby, but it ended up being closed so we hung around there to figure out where we were going to go for dinner when I found a huge wasp on my neck that REALLY freaked me out (it was SO big). We ended up finding this place called Rewind for dinner. This place was also VERY yummy! I got tacos and a root beer float with deep fried Oreos to take back to the hotel. Stace got a Philly cheesesteak (and we obviously split and shared our meals), both were the yummiest things I've ever had. The guy who took our order was really nice and turns out, as he told us, that the building was a 5 story club with a different decade of music for each level.
Once we filled up on food, we went and did some more shopping. We found some good stuff, but we'll do our final shopping tomorrow (our last full day). After that, we came back to the hotel to watch some HGTV and eat the Oreos. I did an early shower, early call home, and now I get to go to bed a little earlier than we have been....so nice!
