3 Months (Weeks 9 - 13)

Compare/Contrast: This pregnancy has been feeling different - hormonally speaking. I've broken out a ton this time around (even behind my ears!), which NEVER happened with my pregnancy with Cara. In fact I had the best skin during and after that pregnancy. In fact when I got my first postpartum zit I knew my pregnancy hormones were all gone. This time my forehead is covered in them, it's awful, but honestly I don't mind. I know they'll probably go away eventually and they aren't too obvious so I'm not stressing about it. I've also been a bit more sad/"blue" during this pregnancy. Not for any real reason. I remember with Cara I had about 3 days where I freaked out about how much our life was about to change, but the very next day I felt completely fine and wondered what had me so freaked out. This time I'll go through days where I'm feeling a bit down and just want to curl up on the couch, or stay inside our home. But since it's warm outside I try and get Cara outside as much as possible. I think the sun helps, but I think I almost just miss working out so once the sickness isn't as bad as it has been in the evenings I think I'm going to go back to those (just taking it a little easier) to get my endorphins back. I forget how fragile I feel while pregnant, but I know it's worth it.

Speaking of the sickness it is more at bay (during the day) these past couple weeks so that's subsided earlier and still hasn't been nearly as bad as my other pregnancy. Also, I can confirm that the baby is on the right hand side (Cara was more on the left) so that's another difference, I feel a lot more stretching aches and pains on my right side this time. I can also tell my ab muscles are shot already. I tried dancing with Cara one morning when I was wearing loose pajamas and I could feel all my organs just shift to the center and my belly was SO tight. Reminded me of when I was in my third trimester with Cara, so I went upstairs to lay down for 30 second to get everything back and I realized I need to be wearing my belly bands (on the maternity pants or whatever) if I'm going to be doing stuff like that. So now I'm making postpartum goals to get my abs back into shape after this one is born.

Best Moments This Month: I had my 12 week appointment where we got to have another ultrasound and even though the lady was checking on the baby on the left hand side (where the pictures weren't the greatest) it was so cool to see the little limbs all of a sudden there. It was pretty exciting. She didn't tell me the heart rate though (she did let me listen, but didn't measure it) so I caved and bought a doppler thing so that I don't have to depend on them giving that to me, I can check it on my own. Although my rule is I can only check on Saturdays (since that's technically when I turn the new week, even though I take my pictures on Mondays) so that I don't go crazy checking every few hours or every day. The first time I checked the HR was at 160, the next day it was between 140 and 150, but I was having a hard time finding it so I'm guessing the baby was in a different position than the night before. Both were on the right side though, so that's how I know baby is more on the right side than left.

I've also felt so much more motivated towards the end of this month, I've gotten some cleaning done here and there and I'm feeling a lot more energetic (still really tired, but more motivated to get it done while I can and then just going to bed early haha).

What I'm Looking Forward To: The gender reveal, this time we're just going to do it in office, no secret paper with it filled out, no gender reveal with us, we're just going to find out together and reveal to our families after that. I can't wait to have the news out there at this point, it's getting hard keeping it a secret when I feel SO big. I also am excited to get into the 2nd trimester (after this week), because I remember feeling SO much better at that point last time around.

Saturday Movie Date Nights

My newest favorite time of the week is Saturday Movie Date Night! After Cara goes to bed, Larry and I pick a movie (usually a new one we both haven't seen - either on Netflix, Hulu, or one from our DVR), grab some snacks (soda, popcorn, and a candy treat), get into our comfy clothes, and either curl up on the couch or in our bed and watch our flick! It's the best way to feel like we're getting some couple/date night time without needing to find a babysitter or spend any real money OR sacrificing time with our daughter.

I can't tell you excited I get for this time! Larry got me a big popcorn set for Mother's Day with different flavors and I realized they'd be the perfect movie night snack and when that's gone we can get the real movie theater popcorn at the store with a candy treat. Plus seeing a new movie with Larry and then talking about it is the best. It's JUST like how our old date nights used to be, but in the comfort of our own home...it's a win-win!

We have a few movies on our Netflix list to watch now and then after I think we're going to start the whole Marvel series since everyone is talking about the Infinity War movie...I think it's about time we get caught up on that one finally :)

So if you are looking for a good idea for a date night that is the best of both worlds...try Movie Night with your person after the kids are down!

What To Do With A Rainy Weekend

When you have a toddler who is a busy body (or who you at least feel guilty keeping cooped up inside a house during the weekend when she is stuck inside all week long) you have a conundrum on your hands when you have a rainy weekend like we have this weekend.

I feel like Cara is in this limbo period where she can only do so much (skill-wise) and she doesn't need to be 100% supervised, but she also can't do things all on her own. I'm all about her gaining her independence, but I also want to learn with her. So I had this idea where we would go to the Dollar Store and find things that could keep her occupied (things like large piece puzzles, bubbles, poker pieces to learn to put in slots on a box).

Turns out this was a very successful idea, I was able to find quite a bit of rainy day activities as well as things that would work well once it warms up and we can spend more time outdoors. I was able to get all of the things in the bag below for $12!

We also did go to Costco to get a water activity table for Cara (which they didn't have in store so we ordered it online, but they did have a bucket of beach toys we got her). At home we played with the toys we got and it ended up being a really fun weekend:

As much fun as it was, I really hope it warms up enough on the weekends that we can take her outside more. I know it's good for her to get out.

I Gonna Git You!

Cara's newest favorite game to play every night:

The squeal is my favorite part! We sure do love our little miss!

Cara is TWELVE Months!

I am TWELVE months old!

Almost 2 1/2 feet tall at 1 year old!
I like: Walking, almost running, bath time, stuffed animals, picking out clothes, being tickled, getting kisses, Moana (the movie, it's the only one she will sit and watch almost the whole way through), music (which she thinks comes from the TV every time it's one so she'll dance).
I dislike: Being told no, being taken away from where I'm exploring before I'm done, and things being taken away from me.

I am now: 18 lbs 7 oz and 28 inches tall. Still in size 4 diapers and barely fitting into 12 month clothes. Her head is getting a little big for the neck holes so we'll see how much longer they fit. She's our slender little girl with the big head still :)

A Typical Day looks like: Cara wakes up between 7:30 and 8 (depending on the day). I get her dressed and in a new diaper right away and then we do breakfast around 8 which consists of baby food, an animal cracker, and a bottle. I leave for work at 8:15 so I try and brush her teeth before I go so she's all set by the time I leave. She takes a nap from 10-11 and then has a lunch pouch around 11:30/11:45, an animal cracker, and another bottle. She takes another nap from 2-3 and then has another bottle at 3:30. I get home at 5:30 and we do dinner at 6, which is baby food, some of our food, and an animal cracker. At 7:15 she has her last bottle for the day. We start bedtime routine around 7:45 so she's down by 8.  It's been a good schedule, and I'm glad it's worked for us.

This Month I: became obsessed with playing "I'm Gonna Get Ya" with my parents. I love being chased around to the point that I'll tease mom when she gets home from work and will walk to her, then turn around and run away before she can get me. I've got about 6 teeth now that I love to show off when daddy tickles me at night. I love (and almost prefer) regular adult food to my baby food these days and have had a lot of fun exploring new areas. I celebrated my first birthday with tons of family around and didn't even cry when they came to talk to me!

Parent's Notes: Our baby is a whole year old now! I'm about 2-10% emotional about that, but the rest of me is so happy to see her growing and thriving. Watching her walk so confidently (and get tons of compliments on it when we got out with her) is one of my favorite things ever.
Update on last month's goals:
  • The first birthday went off so well! Almost no hitches (none I can think of)
  • Signing has taken a backseat to learning...she just doesn't seem to care about learning it.
  • We decided to wait until next summer to do swimming lessons. Our neighborhood pool should be opening soon (fingers crossed) so we figured we could practice on our own this summer and go to a real lesson place next summer.
  • Utensils are still being worked on, but it's going to take some time. She's doing better, but not where we can leave her on her own.
  • Language is still on the list. She knows her couple of words, but doesn't say much more. She said "baby" a few times, but then stopped...again. But At least it still gives me something to keep working on.
  • I've created a great meal plan for Cara that will be exciting to start up now that she's a whole 1 year old.

I'm not doing any "next months goals" because we'll just be working on her learning new skills, words, and getting more socialized :)
